About Us
Friends and family have always brought things back for each other from trips abroad: a phone that costs less in Dubai, a perfume from the airport duty-free, chocolates for a birthday. Today those favours are arranged over WhatsApp messages and travel groups. Smuggl formalises them.
What we offer
- For shoppers: ask a traveller from your own network (a direct contact, or a friend of a contact) who is already flying to your city to pick up an item for you: from an approved retailer abroad, such as a brand or department store, or from the airport duty-free on their way home. You see the full price before you pay, and you collect the item in person when they land.
- For travellers (Smugglbears): earn a fee for picking up items for people you know, on a trip you have already booked, without spending your own money until the order is paid.
What Smuggl adds to the favour
- Identity verification of every traveller, and trips checked against the airline's published schedule
- Clear prices before anyone spends money: the item, the traveller's fee and our platform fee
- Your payment held until you have checked and accepted your items at the handover
- Fixed rules for refunds if a trip is cancelled or an item isn't right
Airport duty-free is the most popular choice because it's on the traveller's way through the airport, so nothing has to be delivered to their hotel abroad. We add retailers to our approved list one by one, as each is reviewed.
Smuggl does not buy, own, stock or resell any goods. Each item is bought by the traveller as an ordinary retail customer. Our income is a platform fee on each order, on which we charge GST. See Pricing.
