Dubai vs India price index: is duty-free actually cheaper?

We took 17 products that Dubai Duty Free sells and found the exact same product, in the same size, on Apple India's own store or on Nykaa. Then we put the prices side by side in rupees. No search-engine guesses, no marketplace sellers: every price in the table links to the page it came from.
What stands out
- Apple is the clearest saving. The gap runs from 6% to 36%, and the biggest is on the iPhone Air.
- Prestige perfume is close to even. Dior, Saint Laurent and Versace were modestly cheaper in Dubai. Gucci and Valentino were within a few percent either way.
- Several perfumes are cheaper at home. Hugo Boss, Burberry, Jean Paul Gaultier, Paco Rabanne and Armani all cost less on Nykaa than at the Dubai counter.

How we checked
- Same product, same size. We matched Apple part numbers and Nykaa pack sizes. If we couldn't match a product exactly, we left it out.
- Official pages only. India prices come from Apple India's store and Nykaa's product pages, shown at the full price including taxes, before any bank offer, cashback or trade-in.
- Left out on purpose. We didn't include Sony, Bose, Samsung or MacBooks, because we couldn't confirm the exact India price from an official page.
What this doesn't include
These are shelf prices. If you bring a lot back, duty can apply to whatever goes over your allowance, so run your own numbers in the duty-free allowance calculator. Regional versions and warranty terms of electronics can also differ from country to country, so check before you buy.
